Review | Yarok - Feed your ends

Sunday, 15 January 2017

As a hairdresser, I get excited when I find a new hair product that I like. I recently discovered the brand Yarok and their Feed your ends is amazing. It's been good for my dry Swedish winter hair, as well as protecting it from the heat on holiday.
It's my new go-to product and to be honest, I don't know what I did before it.

Yarok started in New York by Mordechai Alvow and Yarok means green in Hebrew. His products are 100% natural and 100% vegan. I don't know if you understand how big that is. The whole range is vegan, including the wax.

But back to Feed your ends.
It's a leave-in conditioner spray that you can use on both dry and wet hair. It's full of minerals and vitamins for the hair. It's a great detangler for the hair. I've mainly used it on wet hair, after the shower. It's a heat-protector as well as it gives the hair shine and nourishment. It nourishes the hair well. I've definitely felt that my hair feels softer and less dry since I've started using it. I also find it helps to get a bit of texture too.
It's a light product and doesn't make the hair heavy or sticky at all.

Men tillbaka till Feed your ends.

It has a wonderful citrusy scent. Almost like a lemon sherbet sweet. Some of the ingredients are olive, jojoba,  grapeseed and primrose.

Have you tried anything from Yarok?

Review | Alchemy Amla hair remedy

Thursday, 28 July 2016

A beautiful organic hair oil to promote  growth and strengthen your hair.
I always get excited to try new hair products. I was drawn to the bottle right away. It looks like a small glass bottle of olive oil with a wooden top.

I chose Amla hair remedy, a nourishing blend of 5 oils to improve the condition of the hair.

The oils are
• Amla
• Coconut
• Avocado
• Argan
• Lemon essential oil

These all work in sync to fight premature greying, promote growth and impart a lustrous shine.

Amla, from the Indian Gooseberry, is a powerful hair tonic known to stimulate the hair follicle to encourage growth. Amla oil penetrates the scalp and can help treat dry, itchy scalp. Which is exactly what I need. My scalp often gets dry and irritated.

The oil works well on both dry and wet hair.

I use it as a treatment on dry hair. I massage the oil into scalp and hair and leave it on for a minimum of 30 minutes. I prefer leaving it on overnight. The next morning the hair feels silky smooth and scalp feels healthy and less dry. My scalp doesn't itch for days after.

For damp hair just apply a couple of drops to the ends to condition the hair. But be careful of over applying as it's quite heavy. I can imagine it would be great on coarse hair and Afro hair.

A 100 ml bottle cost £27 which for a good hair oil, I think is definitely worth it. The oil will last a long time. I would definitely buy this again.

A pampering evening

Thursday, 28 April 2016

I've been so busy lately with work, sorting out my move to Sweden and preparing for my half marathon. I came home one evening and just felt I needed some time out.

I decided to finish off the last of my Saachs organics herbal powder. It's an intense hair treatment.
I love the feeling of my hair after this treatment. It feels thicker and gives it more volume, which last for a few days.

I made myself a coffee scrub out of only three ingredients. Coffee, sugar and coconut oil. For me this is a big treat as it awakens all my senses. It smells so good and the skin feels soft after.

I cream myself with Neals yard remedies Beauty sleep, which feels so indulging. It's so thick and creamy and the Rose is calming. Perfect for a relaxing evening.

For the face I use my two favorite products at the moment. My eye cream from Maria Ã…kerberg for the sensitive area around my eyes. For the rest of my face I use Green People's Beauty Boost skin restore. Which is like having a mini facial. It's been so good for my skin lately. I recently wrote a review to find out more click here.

I walked into the kitchen to make myself a cup of tea. I then spent the rest of the evening in bed, enjoying my cup of tea, my favorite chocolate and a good book.

What do you do to relax?

Vad gör du för att slappna av?

Review | Saach organics

Thursday, 10 December 2015

Strengthening haircare using Ayurveda with Indian herbs, made in the UK. The last couple of months or so I've been using Saach organics basil, hibiscus & peppermint shampoo, for hair strengthening, and hibiscus, henna and primrose hair nourishment conditioner. I've also used the herbal hair oil.

Saach organics contain 100% natural actives and are free from

• parabens
• formaldehyde
• sulphates
• petrochemicals

They are cruelty free and suitable for vegans.

When I first started to use Saach I wasn't too sure about them. As many natural shampoos they don't lather that much and can sometime not feel like it cleans the hair as good. It can also weigh down the hair, leaving it feeling greasy. I tried a few different shampoos and in the end the one that worked best on my hair is the Basil, hibiscus & peppermint strengthening shampoo.

I then shampooed twice and rinsed it well. It worked and hair felt clean.

After a while I started to notice how it improved the condition of my hair. It felt soft, smooth and stronger. It's the best condition my hair been in for a long time.

The longer I used the products the more I like them. Because I see the benefit and how much better my hair feels. I keep getting compliments on my hair and all I've done is washing it.

The conditioner I liked right away. It feels great to apply it to the hair, easy to comb through and makes my hair smooth. I love the smell of the conditioner. Part from the hibiscus, henna and primrose, it also has almond and cinnamon. It's rather spicy and I love it.

The use of henna in their products is new to me. It also made me slightly nervous using them as I didn't want it to  change my colour. The henna Saach is using is a colourless henna so it won't make any difference to your hair colour and is fine to use on coloured hair.

I've also been using the herbal hair oil. Made from Indian gooseberry cotton seed oil and almond oil. Some of the other ingredients are henna, rose, coconut oil and red sandalwood. I apply oil on my scalp and throughout the hair and leave it over night. It sinks in to the hair so doesn't feel too greasy like many oils can do.

The herbal hair oil claims to open up blocked capillaries, improving the blood circulation on the scalp and brings back moisture to your hair.

My scalp often get dry and itchy and this oil has helped with that. My hair feels smooth and healthy.

Price is £10.95 a good value for a good and natural shampoo. The herbal hair oil is £12.90. You can buy them from LoveLula www.lovelula.com
I would definitely buy these again.

Benefits of using Argan oil

Saturday, 7 November 2015

Argan oil, also known as the golden oil from Morocco, is a great oil with many benefits for both hair and skin.

Argan oil is the purest form of the oil found in the Argan trees, that grows in the southwest region of Morocco. Argan oil is extracted from the Kernels. Because the tree is found only in a limited area, the oil in itself is quite rare and this is why Argan oil is more expensive than other oils. But because it's highly concentrated you only need couple of drops.

Argan oil is beneficial for both the hair and skin. Some of those benefits are

for hair
- tames frizzy hair
- prevents dry scalp
- promotes hair growth
- mends split ends
- adds shine
- protects agains heat
- softens hairs

for skin
- anti inflammatory
- improve elasticity
- reduce appearance of wrinkles, lines and blemishes.
- hydrates dry skin
- fade sunspots
- strengthen nails

Argan oil is a dry oil and not as greasy as coconut oil for example.
Some easy ways to use Argan oil are

Body Moisturiser
 - apply directly to your face and body or add couple of drops to your regular moisturiser for extra glow.

For Your hands
 - apply to your hands for a nail conditioner and cuticle moisturiser.

Hair treatment
- work a good amount into hair and leave it overnight to calm dry, frizzy and split hair. Wash it off in the morning.

Hair serum
- smooth a drop over hair after styling to tame flyaway or static hair.

Some of the key ingredients that Argan oil naturally contains are

Vitamin E
Which is great for
- treating and preventing acne
- anti-ageing
- anti-wrinkle
- reduces under eye circles.

Omega 6
That will help prevent hair breakage

Saponins
That will soften hair and skin.

Argan oil is such a great oil, but unfortunately there's a lot of fake ones out there. Many products labelled as Argan oil hair treatment. They are actually made almost of silicone (dimethicone) and its derivatives. Many containing less than 1% of Argan oil. These products are not adding the beneficial fatty acids and antioxidants of Argan oil. To make sure you got the real deal, this is what you should look out for.

- organic
- cold-pressed
- the ingredient should be Argania spinosa or Argan oil.

I use John Masters organic 100% Argan oil. It's harvested and produced in Morocco by hand in the Argan forest. It is cold pressed and extra virgin. The production is carried out by a women's cooperative, which has established an ecosystem reforestation project to ensure sustainability and to protect the rare endangered tree. The income generated is providing healthcare and education for the entire community.
