Favourite picks from LoveLula's January box

Friday, 17 February 2017

Yet another box packed with gorgeous green beauty and cruelty-free products.
I was so happy to receive January's box. Mainly because it feels like the post office in Sweden has been on holiday for a month. I've been expecting so many parcels for weeks so when they finally started to arrive I was so relieved and excited to finally get to open up some boxes.

I thought instead of sharing everything that was in the box I instead will share a bit more about two of my favourites in the box.

An eye cream that lightens dark circles and tightens the skin and prevents wrinkles. Sounds like a cream that I'm in need of. I've been walking around like a zombie lately in the dark winter months and just beyond tired. I'm definitely in need of a pick me up.

It contains buckwheat that helps to reduce puffiness and dark circles.
It's a moisturising eye cream and it feels great right away as I'm applying it. I definitely like this cream and I do look less tired. I'm looking forward to using it further and see if I see some results.

I'm already a fan of Balm balm and I remember getting introduced to them many years ago by my friend Peri. This face balm is for more than just the face, you can easily apply it to any area where there's a need for some nourishment.

It melts beautifully into the skin and makes it easy to apply. It's infused with Rose geranium so has a wonderful scent too. And who can resist all the beautiful pink packaging, right? I find this a perfect product to bring on travels.

LoveLula's monthly beauty box is such a great way of discovering new organic and natural products. I'm always pleasantly surprised every time I open the box each month. I've discovered many new wonderful brands and products. It's also great as a gift for someone.

Living Nature eye makeup and discount code

Tuesday, 22 March 2016

It's not a secret that I like Living Nature's makeup. I find its high quality and I love the finished result. You might remember my summer bronze pressed powder, which I wrote a review on here. All their products are 100% natural and all the products I talk about are vegan.

My recent favourite is all their eye makeup. I recently kindly received four eyeshadows, mascara and an eyeliner pencil from Living Nature. They do not disappoint. It's such a good quality. I did a makeup look over on my YouTube channel. http://youtu.be/GaAX3Xxv8x8

The eye pencil is soft and is easy to apply. I'm a huge fan of the mascara in colour jet black. It's thickening and makes the lashes looking fuller.

The eyeshadows are gorgeous and are long lasting. My favourite shade is shell (top left) which is a lovely subtle pink colour. The other colours I got was sand (top right) pebble (bottom right) and glacier (bottom left).

I have a DISCOUNT CODE for you! 20% off on any Living Nature products on their website www.livingnature.com
Just quote STEELE20 at the checkout. Available until 30th April.

Please comment below and let me know what you got

How To... Choose a good shampoo

Saturday, 19 March 2016

We have all been there. Our shampoo just ran out and time for a new one. But which one should I choose?
If you go into a shop there are isles and isles of hair products. There are so many to choose from.
I've put together a little guide to hopefully make it a little bit easier next time.

Trial and error
All hair is different and it can take time to find the perfect shampoo for you. What's good for your best friend or your favourite blogger might not work for you at all. Don't be afraid to try a few until you find the one you like. Try and see if they sell the one you want to try in a travel size. It's a perfect way of trying a new product.

Listen to your hair
Your hair has different needs, different times of the year. It tends to get drier in winter so will need a more moisturising shampoo and conditioner. Same goes when you're on holiday and it gets dried out by sun and sea water.

Avoid sls and parabens
Make sure you choose a shampoo without sls (sodium laurel sulphate) because it removes your natural oils and dry out your scalp. If you find your scalp often get itchy and irritated. That's probably why.

Parabens are cheap and effective preservatives which may lead to health issues. I wrote a blog post about it here

Get to know your hair
Is your hair dry or oily? Is it chemically damaged? Do you have an itchy scalp? Is it curly or straight? Is it fine or coarse? These are all things to consider when buying a shampoo.

Spend a little bit more
So many are prepared to spend £20-30 for a facecream but would never spend more than £5 on their shampoo. Sometimes it's worth spending a little bit more on your hair.   Give your hair the quality it deserves. Then you'll avoid cheap preservatives and many other unnecessary and unhealthy ingredients.

Choosing a natural and organic shampoo
Again, you might not find the one that works for you right away. Don't get disheartened, but try another one. Sometimes it takes time for your hair to get used to a natural shampoo, so give it time. Before you know it your hair will feel so much better and healthier.

What shampoo are you using at the moment?

Vad för schampoo använder du just nu?

Today's natural makeup look

Saturday, 30 January 2016

Today I thought I would show you my make-up look. As I'm relaxing and seeing some friends I want an usual, a natural look.
I always use natural and organic product and of course cruelty free.

I love my new Lily Lolo makeup brushes. They're soft and applies the makeup so well. I think my favourite is the blusher brush so far.

For my foundation I'm going all out with my favourite brand Maria Ã…kerberg. I'm using liquid foundation cold and loose powder pure beige.

Living Nature* summer bronze pressed powder and Lavera blusher velvet plum.

For eyes I'm trying out my new eye shadow palette from Lily Lolo, smoke & mirrors. As eyeliner I use Maria Ã…kerberg black and Zao mascara.

Finally for lips I use Maria Ã…kerberg Coral lipliner and Joyful Lipstick.

What's your favourite makeup look at the moment? What product are you loving?

Vad är din favorit smink look just nu? Vad för produkter älskar du just nu?

*disclaimer. This is not a sponsored post. All products I mention in this post I've paid with my own money or received* by the brand for previous reviews.

REVIEW | BOTANICALS NOURISHING FACE BALM - rose and camellia

Thursday, 26 November 2015

A perfect balm for the cold winter months when your skin needs a little extra TLC and hydration.

My love affair with botanicals continues. A while back I reviewed Botanicals revitalising mask. Since then I've tried their face balm. Such a gorgeous, perfect and they work perfectly together.

On the label:

"A deeply conditioning, natural balm to help soften and enhance the texture of your skin. Infused with Wild rose and rose geranium, renowned for their nourishing and revitalising properties."

When applying the balm feels similar like a oil. It easily melts into your skin and makes it easy to apply. Therefore you only need a very small amount and will last you a long time. It makes my skin feel hydrated and silky smooth.

It has a gorgeous smell from rose and lavender. The other key ingredients are Shea butter, grape seed oil and jojoba.

I have found since using botanicals my skin has improved. I normally have dry patches on my cheeks and recently I haven't been as dry. Especially in the winter I need a more moisturising face cream. The cold weather mixed with central heating can be devastating for my skin. I find that Botanicals nourishing face balm is exactly what my skin needs. It's perfect for night time and I wake up with perfectly hydrated skin.

Botanicals are approved by the soil association, the face balm has

• 89% organic ingredients
• 100% natural active ingredients
•vegan

It's £27.95 for a 50g glass jar. Botanicals also do some gorgeous gift sets for Christmas. To find out more, visit their website www.botanicals.co.uk

Have you tried any products from Botanicals? Which product is your favourite? Or which would you like to try?

*disclaimer: I received the Botanicals face balm for free to review. All views are my own.

Review | Living Nature summer bronze pressed powder

Thursday, 19 November 2015

It's time to review the gorgeous bronzer from New Zealand brand Living Nature. A 100% natural mineral colour for a radiant sun kissed complexion.

I'm not a typical bronzer kind of girl. I rarely use them. I'm often happy to stick to my normal blusher. Most of my life I've always been afraid of adding any warm shades to my face. No orange tanned looks for me. The paler the better. But I've decided to embrace the bronzer.

I did fall for the beauty that was Living Nature summer pressed powder. It comes in a gorgeous compact case with a mirror. I almost didn't want to use it because I then ruin it. Eventually I couldn't resist.

The summer bronze powder is a

• natural mineral powder.
• vegan
• fragrance free

It has been highly commended in the Blusher Category of the UK's Natural Health Magazine's prestigious Natural Beauty Awards 2014.

Living Nature statement on their website

We are passionate about the benefits of natural skincare, and committed to our philosophy of 'nature works' as the basis for developing skincare and cosmetics products that work in harmony with our skin.

Summer bronze pressed powder gives my skin a healthy glow. It's subtle and looks natural. It gives a sun kissed healthy look, which impressed me. As I'm often worried to overdo my makeup, I'm glad it has a natural look as many bronzers are too brown/dark.

My skin is fair and the summer bronze is not too dark on my complexion. It gives it a healthy glow. I believe it would work well on a more toned skin complexion too.

The bronzer has a good lasting power, it still looks great hours after application. I've used it on days/evenings where I had it on for 5-6 hours and it stayed on my skin well and looked great until I took it off.
It works great on top of foundations, tinted moisturiser or by itself.

Key ingredients:

Olive fruit oil - containing fatty acids to deeply moisture skin.

Soybean oil - an antioxidant and full of fatty acids to keep skin looking youthful.

The Living Nature summer bronze pressed powder is of great quality. It's the first Living Nature I've tried but I'll be definitely buying more of their products, because they've impressed me.

It's £21 which might be more than you pay for a bronzer. But it's worth it. It's of high quality and it's a safe product being 100% natural with no toxic ingredients.

Have you tried any of the Living Nature range?

How many beauty products I use in a day and the importance of choosing organic and natural

Thursday, 12 November 2015

Today is a short post to just remind you of how important it is to choose organic beauty products.

Yesterday I counted how many products I put on my body in one day. So everything from shampoo, cleansers, lotions, serums etc.

Guess how many?

21 products. In one day I put 21 products on my hair and skin. I was surprised myself. I don't even see myself as a product junkie. I know some days I use less and some days more depending on the day. When I realised I was so happy I only use natural and organic products.

Our skin is our biggest organ and it absorbs everything we put on it. This is why it's so important to use natural and organic ingredients. Avoid all toxic products. Your skin absorbing all these harmful ingredients that's not good for your health or the environment. If you want to read more about why choosing organic beauty products read my post about it here http://www.sarasteele.co.uk/2015/03/why-should-i-use-organic-beauty-products.html?m=1

This is the products I used in one day!
Shampoo
Conditioner
Hair serum
Body scrub
Shower gel
Cleanser
Toner
Moisturiser
Deodorant
Toothpaste
Lip balm
Eyeliner
Foundation
Highlighter
Powder
Rouge
Mascara
Lipstick
Cleanser
Face mask
Argan oil

How many products do you use in one day?

Things to do for Organic September

Thursday, 3 September 2015

Soil association launched Organic September to celebrate all things organic and make people more aware of choosing organic. I've put together a list of small and simple changes that we all can do this month.

I always think of what things come from and where are they going. Think of all the rubbish we throw away. Think of all the chemicals we put down the drain daily in the shower or when we are doing the washing. All the little changes we do in our day to day life will make a huge difference.

1. Start with your morning cuppa
Why don't you buy organic teabags or coffee grounds this month. Make your mornings even brighter for the future. Try and find teabags that are biodegradable or use loose leaf tea.

2. Swap 5 food items
I understand it can be hard to change everything at once. Try and think of 5 food items you use a lot of and see if you can swap them to organic. It's all about starting somewhere.

3. Swap to organic beauty
Your next beauty product that runs out. Instead of buying the same one why don't you swap it with an organic option instead. To a more in detail guide for green beauty why don't you read my green beauty guide for beginners. http://www.sarasteele.co.uk/2015/08/green-beauty-guide-for-beginners.html?m=1

4. Recycle or upcycle
Try and recycle as much as you can. But many of the things we throw away we can easily make use of in another way. There's a ton of inspiration for up cycling on Pinterest.

5. Swap to Eco friendly washing powder
Such an easy swap to do and it's less chemicals in our oceans and in our clothes.

6. Buy organic clothes
I'm taking it a step further. Why don't buy organic clothes. All my jeans are made of organic cotton. Which means it's produced with less chemicals and so much better for both me and the environment.

7. Visit a farmers market
It's my favourite thing to do. Buy local, independent and organic. I'll promise you'll leave with a big smile and better tasting food.

8. Go for organic coffee
Instead of your usual Starbucks why don't you go to a independent coffee shop using organic coffee.

9. Swap your essentials to organic
Think of the things you use everyday like body wash, deodorant and toothpaste. These things can make a huge damage to your body. But swap it to more natural and organic products. Remember our skin is the biggest organ and it absorbs so much of the toxics we put on it. Make that change.

10. Don't get overwhelmed
When you start changing and seeing the good it does. It can be overwhelming when you think about all the toxic stuff you use everyday. Don't overwhelm yourself. You have started to change which is great. Then just do little by little. The last thing we want is more waste so don't throw out everything at once but simply replace the bad things with good things as they run out. Before you know it your home will soon be an environment friendly zone.

Remember Organic month should just be the beginning of good habits. Don't wait for next year September until you buy your next organic product.

What are some of the things you're doing for organic September?
