My favourite bloggers and Youtubers

Friday, 26 August 2016

I do think it's important to spread the love once in a while. It was a while ago I shared some of the blogs I do enjoy reading. So below I'm listing some bloggers and YouTubers that I've been enjoying lately. That all inspire me and make me happy.

YouTube

A vegan minimalist Swede that lives in Berlin and has an amazing YouTube channel, sharing her lifestyle. I've learned so much from Jenny. My favourite videos are her and her boyfriend David, having Sunday breakfast and talk about the week.

Another Swedish YouTuber who shares her fitness and healthy lifestyle. I love watching Ida's vlogs. Her energy and positivity are contagious and a great day to start the day.

Ashley is an American green beauty YouTuber. Her makeup tutorials are amazing and Ashley always looking flawless. She is a living proof of that organic makeup does as good job as any other makeup.

If you're Swedish and in need of a laugh. You need to check out Amanda's channel. She is witty, does great sketches and stories. Amanda is always on point and I'm so happy I found her channel.

Bloggers

Besma is one of my favourite bloggers. She shares her consciously living lifestyle, like food beauty, clothes and what she does on the weekend. Besma is a true inspiration and her blog is informative and helpful in so many ways.

If you want to learn more about green beauty this is the place to go. I always discover new products on Ambers blog and I'm sure she will manage to persuade you to buy a thing or two. Amber also recently started an online shop Nectar&bumble.

9 Things I've learned my one year of blogging

Monday, 29 February 2016

My blog recently turned one year old. It's been an amazing journey, sometimes a bit crazy. I'm so happy I started blogging and I wouldn't change it for the world. I've learned so much about myself as well as the blogging world. I thought I would share some of those things with you.

1. It's hard work
Blogging is not easy. If I had realised how much hard work it is, I might not have started. But I'm glad I did and it's all worth it. The hours I spend on writing and planning my blog posts and photographing is just the beginning. Then it's the promoting on social media, keeping up with other bloggers.

2. Great blogging community
The blogging community can be great and supportive. Most bloggers are happy to help out and give advice. I've met some amazing bloggers at events and I'm looking forward to meeting even more soon.

Fantastisk gemenskap bland bloggare

3. You'll get ridiculously happy by a comment
I still get so excited when someone leaves a genuine comment or like what I've written. Sometimes I can't believe that people actually read my blog or watch my YouTube channel.

4. Confidence booster
It's an amazing feeling when someone like a picture I've taken or appreciate what I've written. Putting yourself out there week after week definitely helps you to grow in confidence. What's great is that it's so easy to look back and realise how far I've come.

5. We all have different journeys
At the same time as it's great and confidence building. Jealousy between bloggers are real. How can it not be, when you all day long see everyone's amazing pictures on Instagram. It's easy to compare yourself. But we need to remember that we're all on different journeys. Some of the people have been blogging for years. They might even be working as journalists or photographers previously. Of course they're going to have better skills than me in certain areas. We can't all have big beautiful white designer apartment or latest products. But we can still have a great blog.

6. It takes serious organisation skills
Running a blog and a YouTube channel as well as working full time takes a lot of planning. I often use every spare minute I get. The commute to work is a great example of time to write a blog post, schedule social media posts or just catching up with emails. But it's also important to be able to let go sometimes. If there's a post which doesn't get posted, that's ok. If you can't keep on top of things, that's ok too. Sometimes you need a day off.

7. Social media addiction is a thing
I feel like I'm constantly on social media since I started my blog. It's easy to get addicted. But sometimes you need to put that phone down and just be with the people close to you.

8. Blog ideas are everywhere
You'll be surprised where you'll get your blog ideas from. It can be from a conversation with a friend, other bloggers or anything around you. You just have to live your life and enjoy things around you and inspiration will come. I normally get loads of ideas whilst travelling.

9. There are some great perks
Yes, bloggers do get lot's of freebies and I've discovered some amazing products and brands since I started blogging. But it comes with a price. We actually have to try all these products out and I had some bad reactions on my face few times. Also, I had to turn down some great offers just because it doesn't fit my blog. But most of the time it's been great and I've been lucky to only have good experiences with brands and PR companies.

Finally, I just want to say thank you for being part of my journey. I'm grateful for each and every one of you. Please leave a comment to tell me more about you. Or if you're a blogger what have you learned since you started blogging?

How To: Braided Updo Hairstyle Tutorial | Sara Steele

Tuesday, 17 November 2015

Today I'm doing a braided updo hairstyle. It's perfect if you want to put your hair up for a party or any special occasion. It's easier than you think.

First clip away the front section of your hair. Depending on how much you want to the side. If you like it loose and messy you'll need more hair or if like me I mainly will have my fringe and just a small section of hair to the side. It's all personal preference.

Then do a section of the side of your hair and clip away rest of the hair for now.

With your side section make a Dutch plait adding more hair as you work yourself down the plait. For more detail of a Dutch plait watch my video here: http://youtu.be/nVPwdcHv8h0

To make the plait look bigger pull the sides of the plait from top to bottom.

Make three pony tails and back comb in small sections to add extra volume.

Take each small section and  roll  it around your finger and pin them up. Leave the ponytail nearest to the plait for now.

Now pin the plait to the back.

Then to pin up the last section to cover the end of the plait.

Lastly we are now pinning the front section to the side. Make sure you don't pin the hair over the braid. You can make the hair hanging loose or tight. It's up to you and how you like it.

Finish off with some hairspray man feel free to accessorise.

For this hairstyle I used

  • Bobby pins from hair tools
  • Pin tail comb from Lotus
  • Elastic bands from Sally's

Review | Suti - Cleansing balm

Friday, 22 May 2015

I received this cleansing balm from Suti as a thank you for my last review. I was really excited as it's been on my wish list for a while and I've heard wonderful things about it.

Again Suti continues to impress me with their products and maybe it's because they using reiki and meditation in the process of making their products, that they stand out from the crowd. It has a calming effect to both my skin and body.

I only need to apply the smallest amount on my skin, which makes it last a long time. The cleanser comes with a cloth which I soak and put on my face to then massage my face and then rinse off.

It cleanses and protects the skin and getting rid of impurities and removes dead skin cells. It leaves the skin feeling refreshed and pampered.

When applying the balm it melts onto my skin and absorbs easily, which leaves my skin feeling clean and so soft. It feels more moisturised than greasy than some cleansers can do.
It has a beautiful smell with the blend of mandarin, lime and lavender. It has a very calming effect and the avocado makes the skin feel amazing. Even after rinsing, my skin is so soft which isn't normally the case when I use cleansers.

The Suti's cleanser is such a beautiful product, not just the balm and it's an amazing smell, but even the glass jar is beautiful.

The Suti cleanser has definitely made it onto my regular evening skincare routine. What cleanser do you use?

Review | Green People Toothpaste and Radius Floss sachets

Friday, 17 April 2015

I'm trying to be good and look after my teeth, but of course still using natural and organic products. Is this possible you ask? Yes, it is.

I put a picture of my toothpaste on Instagram and Twitter and had a few people asking about it so I thought I'll write a review.

Green People Toothpaste - minty cool

Why do I choose organic toothpaste?

It's free from nasties like SLS (sodium Lauryl Sulphate), Fluoride, artificial flavours, colouring, sweeteners and preservatives. It's cruelty-free, vegan and fair trade. So the question is why shouldn't I choose organic toothpaste?

If you're not used to natural toothpaste it might feel strange as it doesn't foam as much as the average toothpaste, but don't worry it still cleanse your teeth just as well.

I find a natural toothpaste much more gentle in my mouth. My teeth feel and look clean and leaves a comfortable freshness of mint as an aftertaste.

RADIUS FLOSS SACHETS

Radius Floss Sachets - mint

I love this floss. Firstly there's no plastic anywhere as both the packaging and the floss is biodegradable. How great is that?

The floss is great. My teeth are quite close together so I can find flossing a bit difficult sometimes but it easily moves between my teeth and give it that extra clean so I won't get told off by my dentist.

Have you ever tried a natural tooth care product? I would love to hear your verdict.

How does my diet effect the condition of my hair and skin? | #healthysara

Sunday, 12 April 2015

healthysara

I often mention how important a good diet is for your hair. What we eat has a huge impact on our hair and skin's health, so I decided to go into more detail on some of the food that is good for your hair and skin and why. And also what food to avoid. Hope you find it helpful. As we all know Beauty starts from within.

Even though, you can find beauty supplements in most stores, try to get the nutrients you need from foods whenever possible.

Foods that are good for you

1. Water
Plenty of water. Our body needs to be hydrated and it goes for our hair and skin as well to stop it from looking dull. Water helps to flush out toxins in our bodies and makes us look healthy. Our bodies need 2-3 litres every day.

2. Green Tea
Green Tea contains antioxidants that prevent UV- induced oxidative damage to your skin.

3. Avocado
My favourite, I can easily live on avocado. The monounsaturated fats in avocado help to improve your skin tone. They're also vital to maintaining good moisture levels in the epidermal layer of your skin making it look and feel smoother, healthier and maintains your skin's elasticity and firmness. Containing omega-9 fats can help to reduce skin redness and irritation  and helps to repair damaged skin cells.
Avocado protects your skin from wrinkles and other visible signs of ageing   with its antioxidant carotenoids, vitamin E, which prevents ageing from sun exposure.
Avocado also has benefits for your hair, encourages hair growth and keeping it moist and healthy.

4. Salmon
Salmon has loads of omega-3 fatty acids, a high-quality protein source which also is full of vitamin B-12 and iron. Omega-3 is needed to support scalp health. Deficiency can result in dry skin and scalp and dull looking hair.

If you don't eat fish like me make sure you include flaxseed in your diet for plant-based omega-3 fats. I sprinkle some on my cereal or in salads.

green vegetables

5. Dark green vegetables
Broccoli, spinach, Swiss chard and Kale are some of the dark green vegetables that are an excellent source of vitamins A and C, which your body needs to produce sebum, your body's natural hair conditioner.
Dark green vegetables also provide iron and calcium.

6. Beans
Beans and pulses like kidney beans or lentils are great for your skin and hair and should be part of your diet. They provide plenty of protein that promotes hair growth, but also provides iron, zinc, potassium and biotin.
Biotin helps to strengthen hair and prevent from breakage, whilst zinc helps with hair growth and repairing damaged hair. Potassium keeps your scalp healthy and helps prevent hair loss. It is also Anti ageing for your skin.

7. Nuts
Brazil nuts are one of the nature's best sources of selenium. It's a great anti ageing for your skin and it helps to get rid of acne. Selenium also boosts hair growth and prevents dandruff.
Walnuts contain alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid that helps to condition your hair. They are also a great source of zinc, as are almonds, cashews and pecans. Deficiency of zinc leads to hair-loss so make sure you eat those nuts.

Whole Grains

8. Whole Grains
Whole grain foods like bread and whole grain cereals provide with zinc, iron and B vitamins. Iron keeps your hair follicles healthy  and hair oils circulating.

10. Blueberries
The antioxidants in blueberries prevent from premature ageing. They also prevent hair loss.

11.Carrots
Carrots are an excellent source of vitamin A, which promotes a healthy scalp along with good vision. A healthy scalp is essential for a shiny, well-conditioned head of hair.

12. Tomatoes
Tomatoes are the best source of the anti-aging antioxidant lycopene, which protects your skin from sun damage and sunburn.

13. Fruit
Our body needs Vitamin C to make collagen - a protein that helps support ligaments, blood vessels and keeps the skin and other organs together.
Vitamin C keeps your hair strong and rich in colour. It also helps strengthen your immune system. The best source of vitamin C is from fruit and vegetables.

14. Eggs
Eggs are one of the best sources of protein. A deficiency of protein can lead to brittle hair and colour loss.

Dark Chocolate

15. Dark Chocolate
Dark chocolate, I mean at least 70% cacao, helps skin stay hydrated and protects skin from sun damage.

Foods to avoid:
Sugary/Starchy Foods
When it comes to foods that have a negative effect on your skin, foods high in sugar and starch are at the top of the list. These foods are associated with acne breakouts and an increase in blood sugar can ultimately lead to fly glycation of collagen - this is when sugar molecules attach to collagen, leading to collagen stiffening, loss of elasticity and skin wrinkles.

Poor quality, packaged and processed foods
These foods should be avoided as during processing living enzymes and nutrients are broken down and lost and can give you nutritional deficiencies, which will show up on your skin. In general the better the quality of your food the better your health and skin. Processed fruits and vegetables have lower water content so won't hydrate your skin as much as the fresh stuff. Try and buy organic as much as possible as there will be fewer toxins and pesticides in your food.

I hope this has been helpful to you. There's plenty of foods I haven't been able to mention so please leave a comment if you have any questions and I'll try to help.
So what food will you add to your hair and skin care?
